There are many moving parts when it comes to email marketing. Open rates. Click rates. Subscribers. So, when something is going wrong, what should you do? How do you troubleshoot it? Let’s dig into three common email struggles, including growing your email list and evaluating your welcome email series.

#1 Low Sales on Weekly Emails

Why am I sending out emails if I'm not making sales? It’s a frustration I hear a lot. Luckily, there are a few action steps you can take to get your email list back on track with sales. (Keep in mind that the path from receiving an email to making a purchase isn’t always straight. Just because you’re not seeing a direct correlation, doesn’t mean email isn’t positively impacting sales.)

  • Action Step One: Grow Your List. Bringing new people onto your list is essential to making sales. Not everyone on your list will turn into buyers, and some people will grow cold with time. Without growth, you’re sales could grow stagnant as some older subscribers may never convert to buyers.

  • Action Step Two: Segment Your List. You might be sending offers to your audience that they aren’t interested in. This means your conversion rate may not be accurate, or you might be turning off people in your audience who are getting wrong-fit offers. With segmenting, you can appeal to the right-fit people for each offer leading to better results.

#2 Trouble Growing Your Email List

Slow growth isn’t uncommon (no matter what you’ve previously heard). But that doesn't mean you want your list to be moving at a snail's pace - or not growing at all! Here are two action steps for growing your email list.

  • Action Step One: Get In Front of New People. Sometimes our growth gets stagnant because we’re promoting our lead magnets to the same people over and over. By getting visible in front of new people, you’ll be sharing your opt-in with fresh faces! You can do this by participating in bundles, guesting on podcasts, and speaking at summits.

  • Action Step Two: Analyze Your Freebie. If growing your email list is a struggle, your lead magnet might be to blame. This might mean revamping the freebie with a new name or upgrading what’s included. Or it could mean creating an opt-in that your audience is more interested in. Ultimately, people won’t join your list if you don’t have something enticing for them.

#3 Welcome Email Series Isn’t Performing

I talk in-depth about email sequence performance in my free Welcome Sequence Toolkit, but I want to give you a few action items here as well. You can attract thousands of people to your list each month, but if your welcome sequence is a flop, you have a problem on your hands.

  • Action Step One: Change the Frequency of Your Emails. If you’re noticing low open rates in your welcome email series, you may need to adjust the frequency of your emails. You could be sending them too close or too far apart. Play with the frequency and note any changes.

  • Action Step Two: Update Your Offer. If your click rate or sales from your welcome email series is low, you might need to change your offer. This could mean physically changing what you are promoting, maybe swapping out a digital product for a small course. Or it could mean changing the messaging or CTA in your offer email.

I hope that some of these action items helped you make adjustments to your welcome email series, or that you see improvement when growing your email list!
